Weekly News

April 27, 2017

Dear Parents and Students,
We've done many things to have a fun review of all of our skills this week.  We've played musical math and worked in groups.  We also talked about the 6 events that we will participate in tomorrow for Metric Olympics.  We will be measuring distance, capacity, mass, and area.
Many great discussions have come up in all subject areas.  We are reading some great short stories as well as my read aloud novel, Maniac Magee.  We have talked a lot about characterization and character development.  Practicing our strategies in both narrative and expository passages is a big focus.  The children have been doing this all year and should have noticed by now that most answers are either there word for word or there are hints or clues that tell us what the answer should be.
In science, we are focusing on plants; the parts, photosynthesis, and the life cycles.  Our next project involves creating a fan book for 3 plants and the 3 different life cycles; annual, biennial, and perennial.
We finished up our discussion of WWII and the effects on Texas.  We will be learning about the changes that people in Texas went through during the 20th century because of inventions and technology.
